Founded in 1944, Loftleiðir took full advantage of Iceland´s geographic position and stayed outside of IATA in order to set travel prices idependently on top of that DC-6´s range and realiability enabled affordable travelling between US and Europe, later in the 60s the company was nicknamed "hippie airline" due its low fare, which would require an stop in Iceland making the trip considerably longer.
Loftleiðir operated 5 DC-6B, all present in this livery:
TF-LLA "Leifur Eiríksson"
TF-LLB "Snorri Sturluson"
TF-LLC "Þorfinnur karlsefni"
TF-LLD "Eiríkur Rauði"
TF-LLE "Snorri Þorfinnsson"
