8D7 - Clark County Airport - Clark, SD
Clark County Airport is a regional airport for Clark County in eastern South Dakota. It is located in primarily farm country. The airport has a handful of hangars, a fairly new terminal and from what I can gather also has an agricultural spraying operation which operates from the field. The main tourism from the area I find is for the hunting season for which planes will come from all around to join in the pheasant hunting.
Currently there are two runways, 13/31 (3697'x60' Asphalt) and 03/21 (turf under 2000'). According to the chart supplement, the turf runway is currently closed for drainage issues. According to a source I hear that there is some construction activity taking place on the field in 2022 which may result in the turf runway becoming usable again.
Notes:
- Runway 03/21 shortened to current length to match chart supplement
- Night lighting added with hand placed taxi lights
- Hangars added (Thanks to Windhover again for the open hangars!)
- Signage added for runways
- Parking locations moved to line up with painted 'T's
- New parking location added inside one of the open hangars
- Many trees removed from the area to make the area more resemble the farmland which surrounds the airfield
- Numerous scenery objects placed for added realism
- Some objects added inside the city of Clark off the field
- Windmills added north of the field to match locations off the primary source of data - Google and Bing Maps
Update - version 1.1 - July 7, 2022
- Removed the trees added as part of the recent imagery update. Also removed the yellow 'X' markers on the ends of the runway which were in place when the updated imagery was taken (runway was being repaved at the time)
Installation:
- Extract the package from the zip file and place in your community folder
Credits:
- Objects used from the Colinj libraries from Flightsim.to and included in the download (Thanks colinj!)
- Objects from the UK2000 freeware scenery library which can be downloaded from the In-sim marketplace
- Windy Things library for the lighted windsock
- I also use objects included from the Free World Updates. As new airports are released, additional scenery objects become available for use. If things are missing, it is likely you don't have these world updates installed.
As always - enjoy flying in Minnesota (and it's neighbor South Dakota)!
If you are interested in a more detailed look at the airport, including the renovations to the runways, let me know. I have a copy of the architect's plans. This is a special airport to me and would love to see it rendered in as much detail as possible.
