Bell 407 Livery Pack - Charlotte Meck. Police Dept. Aviation Unit
The Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department Aviation Unit operates a fleet of highly equipped Bell 407s. CMPD has been flying helicopters over the skies of Charlotte since 1971, beginning with a Bell 47. The Bell 206 Jetranger replaced the 47, and served the community for 21 years and over 13,000 flight hours until retirement in 1997. N9956K, represents the Bell 206 in it's former light blue livery.
In addition to direct arrests, the department’s aviation unit is responsible for 221 assisted arrests, 81 vehicle recoveries and locating 38 missing people so far in 2021, department officials said.
The CMPD air units use the callsign "Snoopy"! The Snoopy nickname was elected by elementary school students in the 1970s, when the cartoon Peanuts was popular and the crowd favorite nickname and callsign has stuck for over 40 years.
